2ND XI RESULTS - 2002/2003

Running the 2nd XI in its first season was always going to be a difficult task, and so it proved to be. After a run of seven games without a win, Graeme Rooney resigned the job of player-manager and Nik Balshaw took over. A final postion of 9th in the league was much less than the perfomances in September 2002 promised, when an excellent start gave rise to thoughts of promotion. But inevitably, as the 1st XI's form dropped and injuries set in, the pool of players from whom to select became more limited.

This was however, from start to finish, an enjoyable team to play in and although he ended up resigning as manager, Graeme Rooney was universally popular. There were some notable individual performances; Colin Knight and Alan Campbell found regular starting positions much to their liking and their form prospered as a result. New goalkeeper Dave Seville won the managers' and supporters' player of the year award with a combination of smouldering good looks (so it is said) and excellent performances. There is much promise of greater things in seasons to come.
