24-11-03 SOMETHING VENTURA'D SOMETHING GAINED
The 1st XI got back to winning ways with an ultimately comfortable 3-1 victory over Ventura this Sunday. Goals from John Armstrong (yes, you have read correctly), Brian McGlynn and John Eccles secured the points. A match report is here. Meanwhile despite taking the lead the 2nd XI failed to climb from the lower reaches of the Third Division losing 4-2 at home to Cream Reserves.
Congratulations are overdue to Chris and Toni Jones on the birth of their daughter Olivia, a sister for Adam. Well Done !!
Apologies are due for the lack of updating of the site recently. Things will catch up slowly over the next few weeks and all should be functioning properly by Christmas.
26-10-03 SECONDS SCORE EIGHT
Freshfield 2nd XI won by a record margin when they beat Inter Group Communications 8-1, with Chris Jones and Stan Mullin both grabbing hat-tricks. Meanwhile a creditable performance from the 1st XI couldn't prevent them from losing 3-1 at home to league leaders Dell Rangers. The 1st XI fixtures don't get any easier as their next 3 games are against Ship, second-placed Running Horses and current champions Ainsdale. A report from this week is here.
19-10-03 HONOURS EVEN IN LOCAL DERBY
Freshfield 2nd XI ground out a hard-fought 1-1 draw away at promotion favourites Pinewoods, Dave Drewry scoring an equaliser midway through the second half. A report is here. Meanwhile the 1st XI made it 3 in a row with a comfortable 3-0 home victory against Bedford Rangers. A match report from last week's cup victory against Metro Old Boys is now here.
17-10-03 MICHAEL CROWE BECOMES OUR LATEST SUPPORTER
Congratulations are due to Phil and Lisa Crowe, who were blessed with a son Michael today. Best wishes go to all three from all at Freshfield FC.
12-10-03 CUP SUCCESS FOR BOTH TEAMS
Both Freshfield teams progressed in their respective cups this week. A late hat-trick from Super-Sub John Eccles gave the 1st XI a 7-6 victory in the last minute of extra time at home to Pinewoods. That win gave them a difficult away tie in the next round, at Ship FC on the 14th December 2003. Meanwhile the 2nd XI scored a comfortable 3-1 victory away at a very ordinary Inter Group Communications.
Next week the 1st XI host surprise strugglers Bedford Rangers whilst the 2nd XI visit league newcomers Pinewoods at Hightown. The latter fixture will bring Freshfield face to face with many old friends and promises to be a very interesting game.

21-9-03 DRAWS ALL ROUND FOR FRESHFIELD
The 1st XI opened their league campaign with a 3-3 draw at home to Wyke Cop Albion. Having been 1-0 and 2-1 down, they went 3-2 up but conceded a very late goal to share the points. The 2nd XI battled well at Meols Park where they earned a hard-fought draw against Dell Rangers Reserves (match report here). Next week the 2nd XI host Fountains whilst the 1st XI travel to newly promoted Southbank, who have lost their opening three games already.
The club has received the following email:
We just wanted to drop a line to say good luck to the lads for the new season. We meet Ray and several of the guys in Prague and had a good laugh with them. Good to see they won there second match and hope Richie's brother had a easier time getting out of Prague than he did England!
So 'Howay the lads'

17-9-03 FRESHFIELD CONQUER EUROPE
Dave Drewry became Freshfield's all-time leading scorer in Europe over the weekend, as Freshfield scored two impressive victories in the Czech Republic. Perhaps most pleasing of all were the 2 clean sheets as Freshfield beat S.C. Veltez 4-0 (Drewry 2, Booker, Jones) and S.K. Maslovice 1-0 (Drewry). Thoughts now turn to the League season as this Sunday the 1st XI host early leaders Wyke Cop Albion and the 2nd XI try to gain early revenge when they visit Dell Rangers Reserves.
2-9-03 FRESHFIELD ABOUT TO START THE NEW CAMPAIGN
Nik Balshaw's 2nd XI start their league fixtures tonight with a home game against Dell Rangers Reserves.
The club will then depart for the Czech Republic for some European Experience against the formidable FC Veltez on Sunday the 14th September followed by the mouthwatering clash with FC Maslovice the following day. There is a meeting at the Freshfield Hotel at 9pm on Thursday the 11th September for final details about the European Adventure.
12-8-03 FRESHFIELD LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEW SEASON
With more new players than Chelsea and 8 weeks of Dave Brooks's sand-dune-torture sessions behind them, Freshfield are looking forward to the new season with justified confidence. Two Ainsdale XIs have been beaten in friendlies and a pre-season tour to Prague is planned for early September.
Reviews of last season are now available for the 1st XI, 2nd XI and the Juniors. A report on the Tom Rimmer Cup Final has finally arrived too.
